SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Last year's NorCal Regional finalist started the season on a high note as Lake Tahoe Community College clipped Evergreen Valley College 3-2 on Friday afternoon.

Coyote freshmen lit up the score sheet. Anaya Thiele scored twice, including the eventual game-winner in the 17th minute. Alyssa Allan tallied two assists; one to Thiele, and one to her own high school teammate Avery Hayes.

Salinas native Karina Vargas assisted Thiele's first goal in the 10th minute. 

The Coyotes fell behind at the 8-minute mark, but responded with two quick goals from Thiele and Hayes. Thiele added her second in the 17th minute to make it 3-1.

EVC clawed one back right before halftime, but LTCC goalkeeper Molly Adams kept Evergreen at bay with five total saves in the game.

The win marks LTCC's first victory on opening day since 2021.

The Coyotes visit College of the Sequoias (Aug. 26), Mt. SAC (Aug. 29) and Saddleback (Aug. 31) next week.
