SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Community College women's soccer team sits on top of the Golden Valley Conference standings with seven points following the first week of conference play.
The Coyotes (6-4-3, 2-0-1 GVC) outscored their opponents by a combined 25-1 over their four-game home stand and failed to give up a goal during three conference matches.
During LTCC's last preseason match on Sept. 28 against West Valley, the Coyotes fell behind early before
Maren Matuska leveled the match in the 15th minute. In the second half, it was all Coyotes.
Emily Brandt found
Avery Hayes to go ahead in the 50th before
Brooke Waelbrock and
Alyssa Allan added insurance in the 4-1 win.
Brandt continued her offensive onslaught by scoring four goals in the conference opener against Shasta College, a 13-0 victory. Waelbrock and
Avery Hayes scored twice, while Allan,
Olivia Kwachak-Hall,
Darleen Minier,
Rebecca Del-Rio Gonzalez and
Miranda Francl netted goals. Kwachak-Hall played the role of the ultimate provider by dishing out five assists.
No. 12 Feather River came to town on Oct. 3 and drew with LTCC, 0-0. Goalkeepers Waelbrock and
Zoe Baligad combined for the shutout.
The Coyotes capped off the week in their friendly confines with a thorough 8-0 win over Siskiyous on Oct. 7. Allan registered a hat trick and Kwachak-Hall delivered another two assists.
Conference play rolls on with two games on October 10 in Redding. LTCC faces College of the Redwoods at 12pm before another clash with Shasta at 4pm.
