Coyotes test their speed against Division I field to open 2026 season

RENO, Nev. - The Lake Tahoe Community College men's and women's track & field teams opened the 2026 campaign at the University of Nevada's Battle Born Classic in the Reno-Sparks Convention Center.

LTCC's Joel Nord highlighted the day's action, running a PR of 2:00.35 in the men's 800 on an indoor track at an altitude of nearly 4,500 feet. Ben Cook-Appel (2:02.34) and Jacob Manning (2:03.93) finished close behind Nord.
In the men's 3000, Elijah Gilleland and Kyle Oltmanns clocked 9:25.02 and 9:30.49, respectively.
Shanaya Tolby made her collegiate debut for LTCC, running 2:58.29 in the women's 800.
David Khoury ran 55.07 in the men's 400.
"I'm pleased with our start to the season, especially against a strong field in a very challenging environment when considering the altitude," said LTCC head track & field coach Conor Wells. "We showed solid strength for the season to come."
The Coyotes' schedule continues on Saturday, February 28, as they travel for their first outdoor competition of the season, the Beaver Invitational, at American River College in Sacramento, Calif.
