Heartbreak in Chico: Coyote winning streak snapped in final moments
No. 10 Lake Tahoe suffered its first defeat since Sept. 23.
CHICO, Calif. – The No. 10 Lake Tahoe Community College women's soccer team scored three unanswered goals to tie the match, but a Butte College penalty kick in the waning moments sent the Coyotes home heartbroken in their 4-3 loss on Tuesday afternoon.
LTCC trailed 3-0 at the half, but eventually tied the score 3-3 as Emily Brandt scored her second of the game in the 89th minute. Unfortunately for the Coyotes, Butte drew a PK which was converted by Kennedy Greenfield in the 90th.
The loss marked LTCC's first since Sept. 23 and it snapped a 10-game unbeaten run. Streaks aside, it was particularly untimely given that it hands Butte (12-4-1, 8-1-0) an opportunity to take the regular season conference title with a win over Siskiyous on Nov. 11.
Lake Tahoe, at 12-5-3 overall and 8-1-1 in Golden Valley Conference play, still sits in first-place for the moment.
Brandt broke the seal for LTCC in the 65th minute before providing the assist on Avery Hayes' goal in the 80th. Nine minutes later, Brandt tied it off an assist from Chloe Waskiewicz.
The Coyotes finish the regular season with a non-conference tilt against No. 8 Fresno City on Tuesday, November 11.
