Heat wave can't slow Coyotes down at Aggie Open
The heat wave across Northern California continued over the weekend, but so did the great performances from the LTCC men's and women's track & field teams.
DAVIS, Calif. - The heat wave across Northern California continued over the weekend, but so did the great performances from the Lake Tahoe Community College men's and women's track & field teams as they competed at the Aggie Open hosted by UC Davis.
Sophomore Joel Nord delivered a massive milestone performance in the 800m. Nord shattered his personal record and broke the two-minute barrier for the first time in his career, crossing the finish line in 1:58.34 to place third overall in the race. The impressive time moves him up to the No. 9 ranking in Northern California.
David Khoury also had a standout meet in the sprints, capturing a heat win in the 400m. He clocked another season-best time of 53.30 to lead the Coyotes in the event.
In the distance events, Elijah Gilleland and Kyle Oltmanns both doubled up in the 1500m and 3000m. Gilleland secured a strong fourth-place finish in the 3000m with a time of 9:33.69, while Oltmanns followed right behind in fifth place at 9:48.31. Ben Cook-Appel joined them in the 1500m, crossing the line in 4:30.12.
On the women's side, freshman Shanaya Tolby continued her consistent season by competing in both the 800m and 1500m.
