Record-setting heat: Coyotes notch slew of PRs at Oxy Distance Carnival
The Lake Tahoe Community College men's and women's track & field teams delivered outstanding performances and a slew of personal bests at the Oxy Distance Carnival hosted by Occidental College.
LOS ANGELES - Despite a hot day in Southern California, the Lake Tahoe Community College men's and women's track & field teams delivered outstanding performances and a slew of personal bests at the Oxy Distance Carnival hosted by Occidental College.
Elijah Gilleland continued his stellar freshman campaign in the 3000m steeplechase. Gilleland secured a heat win and crossed the finish line with a massive personal record of 9:57.26. The time earned him the 3C2A State "A" Standard and moved him up to the No. 2 overall ranking in the state. Fellow steeplechaser Joel Nord also had a strong showing, registering a personal-best time of 10:28.38.
Distance runner Kyle Oltmanns made a big splash in the 5000m. He shattered his previous personal record by a full 30 seconds, finishing the race in 15:47.14.
On the women's side, Shanaya Tolby put together a highlight performance in the 1500m. Tolby shaved an impressive 10 seconds off her previous best, establishing a new PR with a time of 5:46.03.
The Coyotes also saw strong efforts in the sprints and middle distances. David Khoury clocked a season-best 54.47 in the 400m, while Ben Cook-Appel registered a season-best 2:01.76 in the 800m.
LTCC has a quick turnaround and will prepare for next weekend's Aggie Open, Saturday, March 21 at NCAA Division I UC Davis.
